Metrology of Optical Communication Systems Using Error Vector Magnitude

چکیده

Error vector magnitude (EVM) as a performance metric for M-ary quadrature amplitude modulation (QAM) formats in optical coherent systems is presented. It shown that the calibrated BER, which would otherwise be under-estimated without correction factor, can reliably monitor of near target BER 10?3 phase shift keying (QPSK), 16-QAM, and 64-QAM employing carrier recovery with differential decoding to compensate laser noise. The impact on number symbols used estimate from EVM analysis also presented compared obtained by error counting.

Estimation of BER from Error Vector Magnitude for Optical Coherent Systems

This paper presents the estimation of bit error ratio (BER) from error vector magnitude (EVM) for M-ary quadrature amplitude modulation (QAM) formats in optical coherent systems employing carrier phase recovery with differential decoding to compensate for laser phase noise. Simulation results show that the relationship to estimate BER from EVM analysis for data-aided reception can also be appli...

Phase Distortion and Error Vector Magnitude for 8-PSK Systems

The demand for higher data rates in mobile communications is leading to the use of higher order modulation schemes, such as 8-PSK. In such systems distortion is a consequence of magnitude and phase disturbances. In this work we investigate the performance of an 8-PSK with phase distortion due to Gaussian bandpass noise, through analytical and simulation studies. Results are presented relating E...

Effects of Magnitude and Phase Distortion in 8-PSK Systems on Error Vector Magnitude Measurements

This work investigates the effects of magnitude and/or phase distortions, in 8-Phase Shift Keying (8-PSK) systems, due to Gaussian bandpass noise. Analytical expressions are derived to compute the performance of the distorted 8-PSK signals in terms of error vector magnitude (EVM), symbol error rate (SER) and Es/No. The results show that the same value of EVM may result in different SER values d...

Error Control Coding in Optical Fiber Communication Systems: An Overview

In sending data from one point to another, such as transferring data between various components of a computer system, due to the existence of electromagnetic waves and other issues such as noise and attenuation, information may be changed in the middle of the track. Therefore, it is critical for receiver to ensure the accuracy of the information. For this reason, error control coding plays an i...
